Default Popping sound when I press the gas pedal

I have a 2004 Ford Ranger XLT, automatic. This morning my truck would not move when I put it in drive. I parked the car and tried to drive it again this afternoon. While it will now drive I am getting a metalic popping sound when I press the gas petal and the car moves forward. It feels/sounds like this is coming from the drive train or near the fuel pump. (I had the fuel pump replaced about 3 months ago). I am not getting this sound when I drive the truck in 2nd, first or reverse gear...only in drive. I check the transmission fluid and it is full, looked under the truck and nothing was out of place or unbolted.

Any suggestions on what this may be?
