So lately when I'm driving my ranger over city roads with bumps the truck is like cutting out real quick then catches itself feels like the engine stalls a little . Electronics work when this happens , if I am just in gear rolling down a hill with no gas I can watch the rpm's go down then jump back up. If I'm out of gear it does the same thing the rmps go down it drops then raises to go back down again.

Also I feel like my mpgs have dropped significantly

I've checked all grounds , wires that could be loose I'm lost at this point

The inertia switch is a ball that runs a kill switch and it will kill the electric fuel pump in case of a sudden abrupt halt, hit or tough jarring (extreme bumping). It could be acting up.

Peel up the carpet on the passenger side of your truck and on the floor along the firewall will be a small plastic rectangle, i think it takes a 1/4 inch socket or smaller to remove the 2 screws. Bench test the switch with a volt meter checking for flow through current. while slowly moving it back and forth, does the current stop or fluctuate? bang it hard to activate the ball. did it kill it? that is the only ways I can think of as to how to test the switch.

to reset the ball, just push in the plunger and it resets the switch.

anyone who has done an electric fuel pump to feed a carb from a manual pump should wire in an inertia switch to kill the gas from pumping in case of a crash, or roll over to stop the fuel from leaking everywhere.

Loose cables on the battery will do this too.

makes more sense ... an inertia switch problem would be from a good whack and after it screwed up you would have needed to more than likely reset it and had your front end worked on(crashed). they are a hardy piece of equipment. glad you figured it out.
