Default What's the best way to change out my fuel pump? 1997 4.0 v6

I've got a 97 ford ranger that's been giving me trouble for a while now.

Bought a new battery and it would still die on me
intermittently...sometimes starts sometimes it wont. it's very undependable so i stopped driving it.

My uncle said it's the fuel pump, he used a mallot and smacked the truck by the fuel tank and got it to start up...so that's his diagnosis..

I looked at the symptons of a bad fuel pump and they're all the same as to what I'm experiencing...so what's the best way to go about changing my fuel pump? Do I have to drop the tank? Someone suggested taking the bed off..

WHat are my best courses of action

not really, its easy, just make sure you have extra manpower. dont forget the bolts that hold on the fuel filler hose and to unplug the tailights.

id undo negative battery cable until you have it hooked up. Also while bed is off, perfect time to hit that part of the frame with some black spraypaint for protection

I ordered this part just now...it's 100 dollars at autozone kinda sad...
Anyhow...I'm a bit confused as to what I do if it comes in all these different parts and pieces do I have to put all of this together myself before replacing my fuel pump?

I'm new to ford trucks sorry for being slow.
Thanks!
