1994 ford ranger 4.0 runs rough. LONG THREAD PLEASE READ NEED HELP.
I just bought this Ranger and it did not want to run at all if it did it was with IAC valve unplugged and the MAF unplugged and even there just slightest amount of throttle caused it to die. Did some testing and some calling around and had come to a conclusion that it had a bad intake leak. Did some more searching found out that they have a problem with the lower intake coming loose. So i decided to replace the intake gaskets as well as valve cover gaskets and fuel injector o-rings. Got done with the job ran great with everything plugged in and accelerated when given throttle.
I thought it was fixed i let it warm up and made sure the cooling system cycled and that the fans came on. After that i moved to the rear end where some work was needed two days later i went to pull it out of the shop and it had some troubles running. Not quite the same as before due to the fact i could keep it alive. It still would hesitation from a start like it really did not want to go anywhere but once it was moving i had full power and no real hesitation It did this at every stop light i came to until i came to one where i was sitting for a long time. I shut the truck off (which i know was a stupid idea now)
When traffic started to move i went to try and started and it would not fire. Got it off the road did a lot of unplugging and cranking. I found that if i sprayed brake clean down the throttle body it would start and run for a bit to me that says im not getting any fuel. But then it caught and started to run again made about hundred feet to a parking lot and it died again and i could not get it started. From there i pulled a spark plug looked and it to check if it was bad or not and also checked for spark everything was good. so this time to get the truck started i had my buddy crank the truck over while i sprayed brake cleaner down the throttle body it started and at first it wanted to die so i kept on spraying and once again it caught this time i had real good power and immediate throttle response i plugged everything in and drove as fast as i could home.
Made it home and parked it let it idle and got out of the truck it idle for about 5mins when i remembered i had forgot to tighten down the air boot when i did it died. tried to restart it and it would not fire up i loosened up the hose and tried again it fired up for a sec then died. We checked the air box for any restriction and found none. I am a little lost and need a little guidance i have ruled out the IAC and TPS and my MAF appears to be new does not mean its not bad. And i will be checking codes tomorrorw morning.
