Default Why would it over heat sometimes

So all this time i thought my problems were solved not I am driving and boom temp gauge rises all the way to the top quickly with no warning. I get out look under the hood no steam just a tiny bit of over flow.

Turn the truck off let sit for ten mins get In it and it's fine for a while them randomly X amount of days later it does it again .

Any ideas?

Replaced thermostat and flushed the system. Radiator has no leaks it's a year old. Water pump no leaks only a couple months old
I'm thinking this is something electrical

Maybe your fan is not engaging?

fan spins no vibrations no odd sounds, is it possible that it is not spinning hard enough or many not working sometimes and working others?

On a hot day, your fan should give your truck that airplane sound. I don't know how else to describe it. On my truck, air moving from the fan is the only thing I can hear when it's engaged.

It makes sense to me that if your fan is not fully engaging, it would cause periodic overheating. Is your overheating only on hot days? If that is the case, I bet your truck goes all winter without a problem

The three times it has done it have been at night during the coolest part of the day .

I want everyone to know that I'm not just a cheap ass trying to get free answers with no effort of my own, I've had it towed to the shop three times every time they call and say we drove it all day and let it idle with no signs of over heating.

Once you go over about 30 the fan is no longer needed. So if your issue is at idle or slow speeds then the mechanical fan clutch maybe bad.

For the money the Efan mod is a better choice as it does a better job of cooling at idle then the mechanical fan does.

unless you have an exhaust system you should hear the fan, i had similiar problem i replaced thermo ect. and it ended up being the fan clutch was needing replaced because it wasnt moving fast enough and would only overheat everyonce and awhile now i never have overhead probs.
