Default ABS Malfunction?

I own a 96 Ranger. 4.0 Manual. I was driving on the highway in overdrive at 67-70 mph. When out of nowhere, the speedometer says i just lost speed to 55. My reaction was to down shift it to 4th, still no power, then 3rd, got power and gained speed. Then within the minute I exited onto an exit ramp knowing something is wrong. While on the exit ramp, the ABS kicks in out nowhere which locks me up, blocking the ramp. With just a quick battery disconnect and reconnect fixed the problem and now it is making a grinding noise. I don't exactly know where to start because the sound it's making sounds more mechanical than electrical, or maybe a combination of both. Someone please help!!!
