I got mine because of the rogue maf combo kit. otherwise i wouldn't have a different intake on it. just getting it prepped for boost with the larger maf sensor housing.

hahhhahhahahahahahah lol rims. i think the K&N is worth it for the looks and just so you can say i have a K&N CAI... not to mention i've owned a stock ranger and all i have engine mod wise is a K&N and a jet performance chip.. i have big tires which would slow me down to and yet i still owned so i dunno something's gotta be doin somethin ha

The only way you will see actual gains on CAI is (on stock MAF) if you have the filter sealed off from the engine bay so your are not pulling in HOT air, and you have a tune for it.... adding a CAI changes your A/F ratio among other things making it possible for you to have a nice tune to adjust it.... aluminum/steel used on these kits gets heat-soaked from the hot engine air much quicker then the stock rubber piece

In a way u always wanna get a tuner after u are done modding the engine. u will see best results that way I couldnt wait to get mine and it made the truck very fun to drive.

Why would speed density make a difference?

Not always.

Why do you say so?

Stainless steel actually is a very poor conductor of heat.
In the right application, a cone intake will make a difference. With the right design - it will not change the way the speed density is measured. Either way on your typical ranger motor it is a waste of money.

Nearly all mechanical changes the engine and bolt on components are power enablers, not power adders. Advanced timing and fuel mapping are power adders.

Just the filter is a waist. You need a way to isolate the filter from the heat. If you get the intake with a block off plate it will keep the heat out you'll do great. I have one on my Sonoma and it does make a difference there. I don't have one on my Ranger, but with past experience you can tell a difference in that truck and it gained about 1.5 mpg no matter what way I'm driving.
