Re: 4.0 SOHC Replacement Plug Part Numbers
The fine wire nickel/platinum plugs work very well and are original equipment in many newer Fords. Compared to the earlier platinum plugs, they require a lower firing voltage and that leads to fewer misfires, less electrode erosion, longer plug life and potentially longer coil pack and secondary wire life. The lower firing voltage also means that no platinum is needed on the side electrode regardless of the polarity.
I think you'll find that the part numbers of many of the old double plat service replacements that were spec'd for the earlier years have already been superseded by Ford to the newer fine wires as well.
The best bet is to use exactly what the Ford Parts System currently shows for your truck. You may, however, pay much less (possibly half or less) if you source the same plugs somewhere besides the Ford dealer.
