Question Code 214 / CMP Sensor ?????

Hi all. I am trying to fix my 1994 Mazda B400. I have been researching info on the Code 214 CID circuit failure for days now. Why is this such a problem to find good information on? I see lots of people who are having this code pop up and many suggestions as to how to fix it. Lots of controversy about "does mine have a CMP". No one has posted that they have replaced part "X" and that it solved the problem. Many, many guesses about what it could be, but no real answers.

Here's my question/theory....

I too have a code 214. I just installed this engine and noticed the CMP sensor plug was "loose" (sensor plug not pigtail on wiring). due to banging it around during engine swap. Applied a little Epoxy to plastic to make sure it didn't move around and such. Now that everything is installed, I get the code. Vitually impossible to get to, now. Just my luck.

Engine runs, starts first time every time, but has a slight hesitation/miss. Failed emissions test due to high HCs. Also have codes for lean bank 1 and lean bank 2. Removed injectors, cleaned them, replaced filters and Orings. Tested them with compressed air and injector cleaner while opening them with a switch set up that I made. Spray pattern great, no clogs, no leaks. OK. Could a failing CMP be causing the injectors to fire at slightly the wrong time causing lean condition and/or miss and hesitation?

Very expensive sensor. Found the one I need on Ebay listd as a Camshaft syncronizer/transducer for $200.00. More research says that it takes some type of special tool to install and "calibrate".

I would consider myself to be a little above average mechanically, but this thing has me stumped. Starts, runs OK, very small hesitation/miss but otherwise seems to make decent power. Must pass emissions to get registered. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Sorry this has turned into such a long post.
