Default Thermostat housing leak

I have a leak coming from my thermostat hosing. What seals it? It is just the rubber gasket that goes around the thermostat housing itself? Is there an updated part?

Yeah this is somewhat common on the SOHC's. The housing itself is what typically leaks, not around the seals. Mine was leaking at the seams of the housing itself. The housing seals against the engine block with a rubber o-ring.

Exclamation Re: Thermostat housing leak

Well I just changed the Oring and now there is a steady stream of coolant leaking. Is it the part hat covers the thermostat or is it the housing that holds the thermostat?.

I drive this every day and cant afford for it to be down so I need to fix it ASAP

It is not a resealable part. You have to replace the whole thermostat housing. It is a bitch since the intake manifold is in the way.

Well I just picked one up from Ford, they even had it in stock, so I guess they are problematic.

Gonna attempt it tomorrow. I think I can get it out after I pull the top and thermostat without pulling intake(maybe throttle body)

In order to get the thermostat housing out, you'll have to pull your throttle body, air tube and air filter out. I've had to do mine twice. The second time, I just pulled the intake manifold as well and it went real quick; about three hours total from start to finish.

Yeah I pulled my intake plenum the last time I did mine too, made it a tin easier to get to the housing. Just dont make the same mistake I did, buy new o-rings for the intake if you take it off. lol

Yeah, I had my fingers crossed when I put them in. They were a bit loose. Had my GF run to the dealer last night and get new ones. This AM I changed them out before work.

No more coolant leeks
