Default oil leak from oil filter housing

Okay guys heres one for you.
my ranger is leaking oil from the little adapter that the filter screws in to.
Any idea why this would happen other then the obvious that it is loose because it is not

Did you make sure the old gasket was not stuck to the fitting? This happened to me but I caught it before I put the new filter on. I always check the old filter and the block fitting. Maybe you got some dirt on the gasket during install. Another obvious is did you lube the gasket with oil before install?

I cannot think of any other reason it would be leaking. All the oil passes inside the gasket ring.

How old is your rig? After 10 years the lip can start to get pieces of crap stuck to it. Next time when you have the filter off, run your finger along the lip and check for dingleberries.

Had oil coming from the housing before. I found that the original o-rings get hard and brittle over time and will start leaking oil past. Use a large allen wrench to remove the bolt holding the housing to the block. There are 2 o-rings on the bolt and a large orange o-ring on the housing/adapter. Advance Auto sells the large orange o-ring for around $3 bucks. Take the 2 smaller o-rings in to either a Napa store or other parts store with a good assortment of o-rings and match them up with the old ones. Clean everything up real good before going back together and use a little fresh oil or other 0-ring lube on the new 0-rings for a good seal & this should stop any leaks. Mine has been fine now for over a year. Good luck!
