my 96 4.0 revs up to 2k when i start it and while i drive.it doesnt always happen but it seems to be more frequint

Detach the negative battery terminal for a minute. Remove and clean your idle air control valve with carb cleaner; wait for the part to completely dry, re-install, re-attach the negative battery terminal, and check again.

How long ago?


ECU (engine control unit) has to learn the new part.


How long has it been since you cleaned your mass air flow sensor with MAF cleaner? Also, was the idle set screw adjusted when the new idle air control was installed?

Hmmm check for corrosion on the connector at the IAC. Also could be a bad IAC from the store... Try and see if you can swap it out due to malfunction.
