Default Smelling anti-freeze

I can smell the maple syrup scent that comes from the anti-freeze/coolant but I can't find a leak and my temperature remains at a safe level. Anybody know what's up?

somebody poured maple syrup on your truck

you might check if your overflow res. is cracked - the lid on mine no longer seals well, and i can smell it from there

It could be leaking from a million different places, there is no way for us to tell you where your cooling system is leaking. I suggest renting a cooling system pressure tester from autozone or any other parts store that rents tools and pressure test your system, that will help you pinpoint the leak(s)

01_ranger_4x4 is right.
When I bought my '05 Ranger back in Jan., it was leaking from several places. Thermostat housing, temperature sensors o-rings, heater valve, and the stupid line going to the pcv. After I fixed all of those, the smell of coolant lingered for about 3 weeks. Haven't smelled it since then.
Borrow the pressure test tool.

How can I tell if it is the heater core? Somebody told that if you can smell it in the cab that is a tell tale sign of the core going bad.

If it's the heater core, check the passenger side foot area by the firewall, or under the carpet there.

'02 4.0l SOHC, I had a coolant leak around 130k miles that didn't show on a pressure test. The issue was the plastic intake manifold needed to be replaced. Of course now, a metal one is available.

The SOHC 4.0 does not have coolant through the intake plenum, are you confusing the intake for something else perhaps? The thermostat housing is a trouble area, could it have been that?

Sorry I'm not sure but they replaced the plastic with metal in my intake manifold and it fixed the problem. Some of my friends had the same issues on their 4.0l mustangs. Theyre forums are a good source you.

Just to be clear, the SOHC doesnt have a two piece intake like most V engines, all they have is a one piece intake plenum that does not transfer coolant. There is nothing in the intake that has coolant in it.
