Default Does a 97 4.0 have a speed limiter?

I was driveing nd deciced to see what my truck could do it is a 97 extended cab 4x4 with a 4.0l and a 5 speed auto tranny i hit 105 and the motor started to bog down and i hadnt hit my rev limiter because it had just shifted into 5th soo ime trying to firure out if it was a limiter or something else. I am a diesel mechanic and not familier with this kind of stuff.

most cars/trucks have top speed limiters for example my 01 F-150 tops 90 the bogs down where as in my 95 ranger i can push it to 115 or even 120 and its still going strong... also my friend has a 99 z28 camaro and he could only get it going 100 until we pulled the stop plates and disabled the speed limiter then about a week later we smoked a mustang on the highway and got up to 150 or so then the mustang backed off and we just broke into 6th gear. the way i see it somewhere between 1995 and 1997 a law prob passed requiring cars to have top speed limiters weather its a mechanical or electronic governor all depends on your vehicle ether way you should be able to disable it. hope i helped some.

my 96 2.3 bogs after 108, but honestly going more than 95 in a minitruck is a bad idea

Yeah, Mine would go to about 120 or so, the only limiter on it was aerodynamics and horsepower. Speedo stopped reading at 120......

But most Rangers are limited between 95 and 100. For some reason, the speed varies in that range, instead of them all being limited at the same speed.

I have a California model 1998 XLT SuperCab with 4.0L OHV V6, 5 sp Auto OD, seems my fuel cuts off around 95-97mph and recovers when the pick-up drops to 90mph. Other than a K&N Replacement Air Filter, all is stock. I think the computer begins shut off at 95 mph and may allow a few miles above as maybe my speedometer is off which driving through speed traps I can say my speedo is approx. 2 mph higher than actual. Hope this sheds some light.
