Default step by step DIY for 4.0 head gaskets??

Does anyone know of a step by step for a DIY of head gasket replacements for the 4.0 ohv?

I have searched and found MANY threaads on this topic - on both this site and others, found youtube videos, some step by steps, but nothing that really helps ME. - many of those are "basics" that a mechanic could understand, but not me

I am not a mechanic, I don't know "part names' or can point to the part if asked - so I need a step by step WITH PICTURES and arrows or highlighting or something so I know what the hell Im looking at.

" Redneckstone ", a forum memeber, did a good writeup on rebuilding the 4.0 here: Project Thread - Rebuilding 4.0L OHV

... but no step by step, and wasn't "just" doing the head gaskets. I am not good enough to pick out the things I need to do my heads. I understand the "gist" of things, but need a step by step that says... "first do this" then "take this off" "loose THIS bolt" etc, etc, etc...

I pretty much an NOT willing to spend more than $1000 to replace my own head gasket - I have no idea how to tell if I cracked a head, or is just the gasket - is the only way to take the engine apart?

I also come up with huge differences in the cost to do this project - I want to do this myself with some buddies help - so what parts am I going to need? ... and cost of these parts?

There needs to be a sticky on doing the 4.0 ohv head gaskets and this could be it - willing to do a writeup - but I have no idea where to start.

I need all the help I can get!!! (will be doing this with NO GARAGE so I need to get everything ready and setup beforehand!)

EDIT: I WILL be buying a haynes manual or something to that effect

ok not trying to sound like an ass really i am not...

if you do not know the basics or know how to tell if the head is cracked. you prob shouldn't be doing this work. do you have tq wrench I would hope at the least?

buying a Chilton's or Haynes manual will be your best help. I could go grab the ford tech manual and post it here but it is written for techs that understand and they DO NOT state do this then this then this then this. its assumes you know what your doing.

I have all needed tools. I may not know how to put an engine together but am not an idiot and am mechanically inclined. I have used tools throughout my life, just never did any "major" engine work other than some oil changes, brake changes, wheel swaps, stuff like that.
