engine temp goes up and down?

Was driving to work this morning - about a 15 min. drive, and noticed my engine temp. gauge was going up and down...

About a week ago, my oil pressure gauge was reading really high - I am told these guages are "fake" but it has to be doing something?? at the same time this was happening, my truck was running a little hot - temp gauge reading about 3/4 of the way to the right but wasn't getting any hotter. then the next day or two, sometimes it would do this, and other times would run a little hot - How I drove the truck, how fast, how long, etc, didn't really seem to impact this in any way.

Back to this morning, the temp. guage was going from 3/4 of the way to the right (running hot) to back to the middle and being "normal", my oil pressure gauge was reading high - there seems to be a direct relationship to my "oil pressure" and my truck running a little hot.

I NEED to change my coolant, I know this, it it old old old. I also will be getting my oil changed - these 2 things are going to get done within the next week or so...

any thoughts as to what is causing the temp to go up and down?
what is casuing my "fake" oil pressure gauge to read high?
...these things are related how?

will I damage my engine at all if the engine temp gauge is about 3/4 of the way to the right (hot side) for like a 10-15 min drive?

what else?

I actually went back over my engine and found that my main ground cable was super loose i tightened that up and everything went back to normal.

I've been having the same problem for awhile now. Do you know where the main ground cable is located on a 94 V6 4.0L?

LOL, I was going to say Ground cable, my Grandpa brought his mower to me to figure out a similar issue (this mower is beast, hydraulics, the works) and it ended up being a ground cable as well. :( electrical gremlins

the ground that was loose on mine was the one that is on top of the upper intake manifold going to the firewall... mine is a 1990 4.0 so im not sure if its the same..

this makes a lot of sense to me...

about 2 weeks ago, my drivers side window quit working on me (power windows, obviously) and i thought the motor burnt out or just quit - qhich seemed odd since i never had a problem with it, and no nosies or anything... but anyway, didnt work for about 2 days, then magically a day later, a door slam later, my drivers window works just fine.

i also killed the battery when i first bought the truck (about 4 months ago, i left the interior light on) so i just got it charged up a little - no issues starting since, but know my battery can't be THAT strong and prob needs a good charge or replacement - is a newer bat though.

If someone can point me in the direction of the main grounding cable that would be great - I have a 93 4.0 ohc, 5spd, all stock. perhaps some pics or something so I know what to look for? I hope to tighten this up and have the problem go away!

thanks for the help.
