Do you already have the engine from the 2000 explorer?

I have the same problem and I am in the process of rebuilding the top end. If it has low miles, and the truck is in decent condition it might be worth looking at. If all your after is horsepower I think you'd be better off swapping in something other than any of the 4.0's.

Redneckstone has a great thread about a top end rebuild here: http://www.ranger forums .com/showthread.php?t=121741

Well both my heads cracked and it's almost impossible to find used heads for my truck because they are cast so my friend had this explorer and I thought if it works it will be worth it for only 400 instead of 550 per head plus gasket set yet.

wrong. its $205 each for brand new heads with valves and springs, brand new casted. unless you never changed your oil this lower block of the OHV is a beast. its just the upper end that sucks. which can be fixed.
