Exclamation 95 Ranger 4x4 4.0 Ideling problem

I just bought a 95 ranger from a guy off craigslist. It ran ok on the test drive, after a week or so off driving it everyday it started idleing rough, the guy told me it only idled rough when he first started it on the morning. Now, its whenever in not on the gas. Whenever I stop or get off the gas the RPM drops to .5 and jumps back up to like 1.5 with a nice squeal, then when i come to a complete stop I have to keep my foot an the gas and the brake in order to keep it at 1000 RPM, if i let off it will stall. I have about 149000 miles on it and i dont know n e prev. mechanics. any ideas or help on this matter would be MUCH appreciated, I know with these kinds of miles im bound to have problems but its all i have. Plse help!

No, there is no check engine light or anything, I did notice my temp gauge never stays still it doesnt overheat but it drops low then goes to half way then back down. I dont know if this would have anything to do with anything. lol

i would get the norms first.. plugs wires cap rotor (if applicable) and air and fuel filters..
if not that. the squeal is probably a loose belt when you speed up the pullies suddenly with a loose belt it will squeal kinda like a ac clutch or ps pump would do to a loose belt.
Idle air control valve-postive crankcase ventilation-

lastly a computer.
