Default Rough engine idle, coolant loss, stalling

Hey guys,

I have a couple problems with my 97 ranger 4.0, and i'd like to get a little FRF expertise if i could on what it could be.

First off, my truck's CEL is on, and the codes are P0171 and P0174, lean on both bank 1 and 2. Now, i'm aware that this could be caused by a number of things, such as vacuum leak, dirty MAF, etc.

Secondly, my engine idle is all over the place... as soon as I start the truck, it revs up and down, up and down.... and does this for awhile until it evens out a bit, then does it again.

Thirdly, I have a small coolant leak which I have taken a good look at and I believe it to be coming from the Upper intake manifold. I have reason to believe the gasket needs to be replaced as I've read online that the 97 rangers had problems with the upper intake actually sucking in the gasket and causing coolant loss along with the CEL codes i said earlier.

Also, when I brake and come to a complete stop, my car sometimes just stalls out and I have to put it in park and start it back up again. I need to get this fixed asap, as it can be very dangerous.

Anyone think the stalling issue is caused by a vacuum leak? And also, should I go ahead and replace the gasket, or replace hoses and a couple of sensors first?

Well, i fixed my idling problem and stalling problem using the resources i had at the house... took off the IAC, let it soak in a can of gasoline, used qtips to wipe it clean, dried it out, put it back on, and sounds like a brand new truck!

Cool, I had to replace the intake gasket on my 96. It too was leaking fluid, at the rear by the fire wall. No problem leaking since. I had a rough idle awhile back, and I replaced the throttle body, or plenem as ford called it. And that fixed a code I had saying that the system was too lean. Hope your troubles are over.

I went ahead and ordered a new intake gasket, I also looked inside the throttle body, and it's very dirty... so i plan on cleaning that too, is there a specific cleaner i need to use?

I would try contact cleaner for electrical connecters , Read the can before buying it to make sure it does not harm plastic. Carb cleaner might work as well. If ya can't find some plastic safe cleaner. Wd40. Cleans things .
