Default Truck starting rough still after new fuel filter and pump...?

My '02 Ext Cab 4x4 had been starting really rough. Replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump. This didn't fix the problem. If I turn the key on and off about 3-4 times before starting it usually fires up right away. Is there some sort of fuel pressure regulator that would be bad or something?

Sounds like you're reseting a code by turning the key off and on , then it starts for you. Check engine light on? OBII is a pretty good system to start diagnosis. Find someone with a code reader (most parts stores will read your codes and sell you sensors, watch out!)

My bet is you got a couple of new codes too. Spring for the new EGR, shouldn't be too spendy. Take it to a good shop, tell em to read your codes and you'll do the work on fixing the busted parts, if they're any good they'll have no beef with that. About 70 bucks at a reputable shop should get you a complete diagnoistic.

I have a 2002 Ford ranger tremor 3.0L with 123,000 miles and just last week i have had the same exact problem. My engine light isn't on tho. I have changed my fuel filter, my spark plugs and wires, my air filter and also have checked for vacuum leaks. No resolution yet. I don't get how if i turn my key on a few times it starts up perfectly fine???

when you turn the key you are actually like priming the system with gas so it might be a fuel pressure thing

Yeah that's what I kinda figured I was doin by turning the key back and forth. So the fuel pressure regulator is on the fuel rail...is that under the hood or underneath the truck?

Its under the hood mounted on the fuel lines that is mounted to the intake that is mounted to the injectors that supplies the fuel. Its the round thing that is mounted with 2 or 3 bolts and has a vaccum line hooked to it and its most likely chrome.
