Default HELP. 2000 4.0 4x4 eating up plugs.

my truck has been going though spark plugs like crazy and no one knows why.

the code i got to day after clearing it was
p0155
p1131
p1151
p0304

P1151 and p1131 and p0304 was before i cleared it.

cylinder #4 has the most torn up plug, as in the porcelin is gone or eroding from around the electrode. they have the proper gap.

i would like to know why 1 to 2 times a year i have to change the plugs. motor has 79,800 miles (give or take some). i put about 4000 to 6000 miles a year.

it has been eating up plugs for a long time and no one knows why.

moved from high elevation to low elevation and i have been having constant spitting and sputtering problems- rough idle.

cylinder #4 plug was changed about 3000 miles ago, along with the oxygen sensors. ran great for 30 days and back to spitting and sputtering- rough idle.

here is the history so far:
was told to clean mass airflow sensor- did, no change.
was told get rid of the K & n filter cause it would cause problems with the mass airflow sensor, did- no change.
was told the oxygen sensors are bad, replaced all 3 about 3000 miles ago, stopped but started again.
replaced the spark plugs same time as the oxygen sensors. cylinder #4plug was missing part of the porcelin.

Replaced the plug wires today, plug for cylinder #4 due to miss fire (porcelin was missing again from around the elctrode), and the mass airflow sensor. runs great but im not sure if in a short time span its going to act up again.

a mechanic tested the coil pack awhile ago and said it was fine, fuel pressure fine, catalatic converter test or back pressure test on exhaust and it was fine. had them test alot of stuff.

now i have been told that the newer vehicles are computer controlled and should adjust for altitude. ever since i moved to lower elevation i have been having trouble with rough idle. and no one knows why. not sure if those parts were bad at the higher elevation with less oxygen and now at lower elevation with more oxygen it has been thrown off or what.

i know, alot of information but i know that a good history can help with diagnostics.

i am wondering if the mass air flow sensor, oxygen sensors, new plug wires, are going to correct this or is there something more i need to look at? all i get or here is thats weird, thats odd, i dont know what could cause that. looking for more info or is this something i have to live with.

p.s. the only part i havent changed yet is the fuel filter. been awhile sine the last one.

why did you get rid of your K&N filter, oh put your truck specs as your signature so people know what they're dealing with, click ^User CP^ up in the top-left and edit signature

----------

takes a good few thousand miles (few driving cycles) for your computer to adjust to your new sensors/altitude

trying to eliminate problems. mechanic said to get rid of it as it could be causeing problems with the mass airflow sensor. I still have ithavent put it back in. now if that guy was full of it i would like to know. of coarse he said he is a master ford tech or whatever been dealing with ford's for a long time and knows that. didnt throw it away, just havent put it back in.

the mechanic was correct in telling you not to use the K & N filters. The filters require you to oil them. the oil has been know to get on the MAF and become and issue. I will even go one further and suggest you put a Motorcraft air filter in it. The 4.0(I cant remember if it is the OHV or the SOHC? maybe both?) have been known to be finicky with anything but a motorcraft airfilter, something about the others not fitting as snug. did you clean the maf with the can of CRC as per directions

what he said^^^^^^^^^ The only plugs to use in your motor are autolite or Motorcraft. if you have anything but those in there now take them out.

Have you added an extra amount of an additive like, seafoam, techron, or some other injector cleaner?

just curious did you have the o2 codes before and after you swapped the sensors? what sensors did you use?

the last plugs i put in i belive were motor craft.

the mass airflow sensor i cleaned with mass airflow senser cleaner per directions on can.

bosh oxygen sensors. a mechanic told me that the codes it threw up were pointing to bad o2 sensor. ive been taking it to a mechanic when the light come on and am running by what he said.

the plugs i use for the majority were bought on price. cheap plugs no good, expensive probly wasting money. i know the one i just put in #4 is an autolite.

i had a place that run a fuel injector cleaner, the can one, few years ago. in the 79800miles i belive the can cleaning has been done 2 or 3 times. can cleaning as in the injector cleaner hooked to the fuel system, truck ran off that.

i did a bottle last year in the tank. i have done more than that.

what is seafoam?

Seafoam is stuff you pour some into gas tank, crankcase and suck some up through brake booster line. It will clean gunk out of the engine, intake and gas tank.

http://www.seafoamsales.com/motor-treatment.html

You will wanna run the seafoam through the crankcase (where you add oil) then change oil and filter. You will also wanna replace all the spark plugs after doing so.

When you run it through gas tank be sure to change filter out as well.

The brake booster line is located here. The line coming off the round part.

what is seafoam?
-Read the # off the MC plug and tells us exactly what one it is?

-I know Bosch makes the most O2 sensors out of everyone but for these trucks I am partial to Denso or Motrcraft

- Seafoam, especially if not used before in the vehicle should be done before plugs and o2 sensors are installed if possible . When putting seafoam through the brake booster don't let the truck stall. loose carbon can fly around and stick to the plugs and sensors that is why it is best to do it and then change the plugs and o2 sensors

my bad. last plug for cylinder #4 was an autolite app103, that was the number off the plug itself. im keeping it so if i do have to take it in i can show how bab the porcelin is breaking around the electrode. i know i put motorcraft in it probly before that. sorry not good at keeping records, of that.

it stalled out when i reconnected the vacumeline, not from pouring in the sea foam. i plan after this tank of gas, change oil and the plugs again.

how possible is it to crack a head? i did run in to over heating last year with a bad stat, changed it out the next day after not running it. anti-freezr detected in the oil. ive kept up wil oild changes regularly, un untill the last few years. been going 3500 miles untill oil change. busy times, no money made it hard.

If you had antifreeze in the oil then you got a bad head gasket that needs replaced.
