Ok I'm only 100 bucks shy of getting my donor so I'll be getting it in the next week or two but out of all the million of 4.0 swap pages nobody has said what needs to be done if your donor is 2wd and the swapee is a 4x4. And believe me I know all we need is just another 4.0 swap thread but I can't find anything on this

So if anyone know anything about this problem, help or a little bit of guidance would be awesome.

well, are you converting to a 4x4? if not, maybe you'll be just missing a driveshaft for a while?

No the truck that's getting the 4.0 is 4wd but the donor isn't. Your right though the worst that could happen is me missing a drive shaft till I figure it out but it would be nice if someone could save me the trouble.

i would think that the end of the tranny might be different so that it meets the transfer case. but if the bell housings are the same the engine swap should be pretty easy.

or were you gonna put the tranny in also? if so im not sure.

new project: dirt track modified racing at the local saturday night track.

a 2.9 trans will bolt to a 4.0 but the 2.9 trans is weak and will not last very long bechind the 4.0.. the drive shafts should swap over if the frame is the same lenth as the doner truck.

Thanks for the info guys. But I am more worried about if I will have to get a 4wd explorer computer? Will that be necessary? And what about the wiring to the transfer case. Thanks in advance compadre

What transmission are you going with? the 2wd one out of the donor? if so you can't mount a transfer case onto it without some modification- swapping tail housings and tailshafts which requires taking apart the whole transmission practically.
