Tune up: PCV and EGR valves
Do you need to replace the EGR and PCBV valves when tuning up or at a certain mileage

Re: Tune up: PCV and EGR valves
EGR only gets replaced if it ever fails to function. PCV valve is part of a tune-up.

Re: Tune up: PCV and EGR valves
The PCV Valve siphons vapors (which contain water, unburnt fuel, etc) from the crankcase and routes them into the intake manifold so they can be reburned in the engine.
As to your first question, it answers itself. If a mechanic can fix it, so can you.

Re: Tune up: PCV and EGR valves
I just read that the PCV valve should be changed every 35,000 miles. And the first thing I thought was damn, I had 142,000 on my truck when I replaced mine for the 1st time!

And you probably also thought, damn, that was <$5 and took <5 minutes for something that I didn't even know about. That's what I thought when I first did mine.

For my OHV the part # is EV225 (Motorcraft) or PV225 for the Purolator. I have no idea if the 4.0 OHV and 4.0 SOHC use the same one.
Yes you can do it yourself, it doesn't even require tools to change it out and it only takes a couple minutes. Mine is on the drivers side valve cover.

Re: Tune up: PCV and EGR valves
as long as the old one rattles when you shake it its good.......no need to change it till it gets gummed up and quits working.
