Default Multiple problems! Please help!

hello,
I have an 05 XLT 4.0L SOHC and had a few problems this morning. heres what happened:
Started car (cold outside) waited about 2 minutes to drive off. At idle car sounded fine. Pulled off and heard and could feel a loud knock(multiple knocks). Tranny felt like it was going into gear fine. Felt a loss of power and also felt a separate rubbing noise from front right tire. I brought it straight to the dealership that was close by.

The tech found that i needed a new hub, pretty obvious. How hard is it to replace the hub assbly?

The tech also said that i needed to reprogram the ECM to fix a timing issue and general update of the ECM. Does that sound right?

The tech recommended to replace spark plugs and wires and said that I will need to take off the intake manifold in order to do so. Can I avoid taking off the intake manifold? Is this an easy job?

Thank you very much. Have a happy holidays!

I assume you have a 4x4. I have not changed a hub but from what i have seen it is not difficult at all.....The right side of cars take a bigger beating then the left, but I would think about changing the left at the same time......I suggest you get Timkins

if you need your ECU "re-flashed" it is usually about $100....sometimes it is part of a TSB and there is no charge

I cant speak about changing the plugs, maybe someone will come along or do a search for a how to.

I did my Passenger Hub assembly in about 45 minutes.
make sure you have or rent the right size tools to get the job done.

I loaned all the missing tools/pullers from Autozone.(small deposit to use, then deposit returned when brought back)

I would pay Ford the hundred Bucks to have the ECU reflashed.

haha yeah it seams like it can be done without taking it off. the haynes manual says that it would be easier, but not necessary if you have the proper tools. ill find out soon enough!

Save yourself a few $$$ and read STL's How to on the SOHC plug removal to do it yourself.
The dealership will charge you the time to take off the intake and swap the plugs, but I can almost guarantee they'll do it STL's way.
Do a Google search for TSB's to see if the Tech's claim about the ECM update is true. Modelageek is correct, sometimes if you do your homework and mention the TSB to the dealer, they'll back off on the charge.
