Default replacing heads

i loaned out my ranger, and it came back overheating. looks like i've got a cracked head. sucks. i've done the thermostat, water pump and fan clutch already. i'm looking at replacing both heads w/ rebuilt jobs. engine only has 70k light miles on it (marriage, kids, yada, yada). it seems worth the effort and $$ to save. i'm wondering what others think, and whether there are maybe other mods i should do while i'm in there. i'll do all the gaskets, plugs and wires. the rockers sound fine, so i'm thinking i'm good there. this engine will never be a horse monster, so dropping a bunch of performance mods in it seems a waste, but maybe there are some easy tweaks i'm missing? thanks,
