Default maf to computer trouble?

been having problem since august & after $450 in replacing stuff finally figured out problem. my maf keeps shorting out so its been sputtering & bucking ever since. well its been unplugged for week or so & it runs brand new, power is restored, no sputtering, & im still getting same gas mileage...i checked & its not in my maf wires they are fine not frayed or sparking off anything. but my maf keeps shorting out i replaced it twice. am i looking at an easy computer fix or do i got a whole mess to deal with? is it safe to run truck with maf unplugged like i have for weeks?

dunno, sounds like same troubleshooting problems i have gone through. how do you know it's shorting out and have you had your truck cheched for codes since problems? that little code comp. can really help with trouble shooting your emissions and intake.

i know it that b/c i've replaced maf twice b/c it keeps shorting out. had it scanned & says its maf. with maf plugged in it sputters & idles like crap. unpluged it runs & drives brand new... either wires to maf are split somewhere or computer is messed up. maf wires are fine so its gotta be computer ford says

I wouldn't go and replace the PCM yet. They rarely go bad. Have you tried testing the wires to see if they are open or shorted to ground or power? Just because you can't see a damaged wire, there still could be one somewhere in the wiring harness that is covered by all the black plastic loom.
