Default 2001 Ranger fuel filler neck replacement

Hello,
last weekend I replaced the fuel filler neck in my truck because the other one was rusted out and leaking gas. After completed the installation of the neck assembly (none of the rubber hoses required replacement), I tried to fill tank and am getting the automatic shut off. Can not put gas into tank.
None of the hoses are kinked. I believe this is installed only one way, but can not find picture of this installed in a vehicle other than the way I installed it in mine. Because of the bed contour, I feel it only goes in one way. Has anyone ever had this problem, and does anyone have a picture of this assembly that I can look at to make sure mine is installed correctly? I have pictures, but do not know how to include them on this forum. I will email them to you if you email me at ppbourque@yahoo.com. Thank you for your help.

Paul

my truck is a little girl when it comes to sticking the nozzle in and filling it up (that's what she said)

try pulling the nozzle out a bit, i think the issue is the gas comes out of the pump too fast and can't go into the tank, so it gets backed up in the filler neck and gives a false full shut off. if i pull the nozzle out a bit so that i can still pump, it seems to work fine for me.

Yeah, I tried that but still does not work.
I guess I have to take it back out and see if the vent line on the neck assembly is clogged. Can't think of anything else other than that.
thanks for your help.

The vent tube us external to the others and is not kinked. That is what is frustrating.

Hey Paul - did you run into any rubber parts in your search for the fuel filler tube - I have a 2000 ranger 6cyl 2wd but cannot find the actual rubber parts for the fuel filler ....

thanks

Marty

I successfully repaired my truck. This is what I did:
I removed the bed from the truck to gain access to the tank. I then removed the vent line and installed a new one. Bought the fuel vent line at a local hardware store for about 5 bucks. Then I removed the gas filler tube from the tank. What I found was rust was lodged in the valve which would not let it open all the way, thus causing it to come back up the filler tube. Using a long neck magnet, I removed the rust. This valve is right inside the top of the tank.Replaced the filler tube, put on new clamps to replace the Ford crimp clamps. Put truck bed back on, and reinstalled the filler neck. Now it works exactly as it should. Hopefully this will help someone else. Total time for repair: 2 hours.
