What years for SOHC vs OHC?
What years had the OHC and what years had the SOHC?
What are the basic pros and cons of each? Thanks

79 USN 04 2000 XLT Supercab 4X4 NOT lifted. Original owner. After 12 years it is time to freshen it up, so... Manual hubs, Upper & lower ball joints, tie rods, shocks, rotors, ham & cb radios, door edge lights, flashing center brake light, OHC, throttle cable mod, 3rd brake light & corner turn signal mod more to follow.

Do you mean OHV Vs SOHC?
4L OHV came out in 1990 I believe 4L SOHC came out in 2001 4L OHV are quoted at 155HP and 225 Lb ft of torque 4L SOHC are quoted at 207 HP and 238 Lb ft. I think the numbers speak for themselves

SOHC didn't come out in the rangers until 2001. Both the SOHC and OHV are great motors and both have proven to be very reliable. The newer SOHC has more power and gets slightly better mileage and is a smoother engine but you can't go wrong with either
