Hey guys,

I bought a 93 ranger 5spd.

During the test drive it had good power, no problems.

I bought it and about 2 miles down the road it began to lose power. I couldn't go faster than about 35mph. When the engine is under load it just doesn't seem to be able to bring the rpms up.

If I put it in neutral or put the clutch in it will rev up just fine.

Also, if I went past about 3/4 throttle it seemed like the ignition system would just shut off.

Do yall have any idea what could be the issue? throttle position sensor? Coil? Ignition box? I think it is electrical.

I'm going to meet the seller in a few hours and am going to try to get my money back. I'm thinkin of offering him $500 for it as is and fix it myself if it isn't a serious problem.

I wouldn't worry about it right yet if you are looking to give the truck back and get your money back.

If you didnt get a "Check Engine" light, that would not mean there was not a code thrown. You could run a simple PIN test with a paper clip. You likely should get a code, then you can go from there!

It actually did throw a code but none of the parts stores can read obd 1.

I can buy a code reader for about 35 dollars but I'm going to wait and see what the guy wants to do.

If he will give me a partial refund to make it a 500 dollar purchase, then I'll take it and fix it myself. or I will tell him that if he gets it fixed then I will take it.
