Post K&N Cold Air Intake

Hi, i was wondering if i should really get a Cold Air Intake for my 4.0 ford ranger. i was wondering if this does really increase the performance on my truck and save me a couple bucks in my wallet 4 gas.

and most importantly, will this make my truck a little louder (deeper) then it is now? Thanks

Yeah if you really want to save a couple bucks for your wallet, your best best is to not buy the K&N system lol

Not worth the money unless you plan to get a tuner and other engine modifications.

It will make your truck a bit louder and it will increase performance but on a stock engine it will not give much of any performance increases (at least nothing noticeable). I have an AFE intake system and the only real difference I notice is better throttle response and on a recent trip I took to San Antonio I averaged .453 MPG gain over the stock air box with the air box mod. That was all pure highway driving cruising at 75mph.

If you really want an intake system I personally am not a big fan of K&N. I like my AFE intake and would recommend it if your in the market. It replaced the top end of the stock air box and that is it.

I got mine on the cheap to dress up the engine. I didn't expect anything else. To my surprise performance improved and gas mileage increased by 3mpg. Want to try it out for cheap check this out, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...item4cf99fc348
Here's mine.

he said on a 4.0. yours is a 3.0
4.0's do nothing more in terms of power or mpg when adding a CAI.

K&N good product but way too expensive. Did mine for under $20.

Engines are just big air pumps. More air = more combustion = more power. However, more air in cannot be achieved without allowing that same increase in velocity out. (Turbo and supercharger applications not included). If you add a bigger intake, then add a better more free flowing exhaust then you have the potential that would need a tune to achieve optimal results. Saying a simple "it's not worth it" is not true. Saying there's more to it than just the intake is the full statement. I drive a 2013 Mustang GT 5.0 coyote everyday that I have modded with all the above and a little more that pushes a tad over 500 to the wheels. Intakes make a difference when properly used.

Most of the pictures here look like they replaced the factory CAI with an aftermarket HAI. Pulling the air box out to suck up under hood air is not considered adding CAI to your truck.
