Camshaft question
I hear a lot of praises that modding the cam can add a small but noticeable performance boost. I was wondering if doing so to my truck would help?
I saw on the rangerstation that this cam:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-49-410-8/
would be a good OEM replacement and would add extra performance.
What's your opinion on this cam or even changing the cam.
what kind of performance boost can i expect?
Just a few Hp and torque or a lot more (like 20?) or none at all

Re: Camshaft question
That cam is not for your truck. So it won't help at all.

Re: Camshaft question
Your truck is SOHC and uses two cams; one cam on each cylinder bank.
You need supporting mods for pretty much any cam. I am talking full exhaust, intake manifold, heads, valve springs, etc.

Re: Camshaft question
I didnt know you needed so much done, the rangerstation said it could go in place of the oem without mods.... just goes to show you that frf is more reliable

Re: Camshaft question
I would find it hard to believe that you could go cam only, reliably, and make decent power.

Re: Camshaft question
if your gonna put a cam in you always buy new lifters from the same company that sells the cam. but as said before, you wont notice much difference without better valve springs and full high performance exhaust. plus it wont run right with a stock tune...

Re: Camshaft question
I can't imagine someone told you that cam would work in a SOHC on TRS without someone else getting their panties all in a bunch. Most cams can 'fit' without mods, but that's not to say it's going to perform. A lot of those cams will move your power band up. Really just depends what you are after. I would run a different camshaft profile on the street than an offroad machine would. Usually best to talk with a grinder to get a ball park of what you want versus how the truck will be used. Guessing at the camshaft profile (buying a camshaft, just because) will probably get you in the wrong direction. There are a lot of variables involved in camshaft selection.

New lifters on SOHC is not always needed. However, new springs are almost always the case.

the reason you put new lifters in (ive always heard) is so that they match the new camshaft perfectly (use lifters made by the same company). otherwise you might get some uneven wear on the cam or lifters that can cause problems later on.
thats what ive always heard. idk if its true but only costs a few $ more and can save you money later on.

TRS tech library doesnt really do much for the OHC guys. The 422 cam is a OHV cam. You can go to summit and they will usually filter out the parts you cant use.
