Default 4L SOHC Ranger and 4L Sohc Mustang differences?

I found this thread on another forum
http://www.rangerpowersports.com/for...hc-228068.html
and I curious as to why the ranger is rated 207HP and 238 Torque and the mustang would be 210 and 255. Is there certain mods we can do to our 4L to achieve the mustang performance while keeping our core 4L

do you mean the differences between the 4.6L found in F150, crown vic, suvs vs the mustang 4.6L?

I dont know if this is the case with the 4.0's but with the new 5.0's that are in the mustangs and F-150's the mustangs have about 30 more HP than the F-150's but the F-150's peak torque and HP come in at a lower RPM than the Mustang's to be better suited for truck use. (towing ect) I bet if you could compare HP and TQ curves between mustang 4.0 and the ranger 4.0 you would see the same thing.

And the way to alter tht torque curve would be done by tuning it differently or are there other factors (parts and performance accessories) needed to achieve this. Would changing the Ranger intake to a mustang intake add a small performance boost as well as different tune?

I understand that the 4L is tuned for truck use (thereby having its torque at a lower RPM then the mustang) but i have to admit that 210 HP and 255 Lb is indeed envious.

Its not just a tune. A tune can't change a car's torque curve. As stated in the linked thread, heads, cams and intake manifold are more than likely different between the Mustang and Ranger. Same goes for the new F150 and new Mustang, a higher duration cam will create more power in the low end. Swapping heads, intake manifolds and cams would be a fairly involving procedure for minimal gains.

wouldnt gearing and tire size have a big impact on these numbers? Lets say that both have the same final drive. But one has tall gears and tiny tires, while the other has real short gears and big tires. The torque curve will be very different at the same RPM's

it would if these were rear wheel numbers but these numbers are at the crank so the drivetrain config has no effect on these HP and TQ numbers.

perhaps but dont the power figures come from the engine itself and not BHP. Our trucks are probably 207 HP/about 160 BHP or something, so wheels, driveline and gearing wouldnt figure in to the performance info figure ford sells with their vehicle.

gears won't affect the hp and tq numbers you see from a manufacturer. All those numbers are engine hp, not rwhp; also gears will not move your peak torque to a different rpm

The numbers are different in a car and truck motor is because they use different upper intakes that a truck gets it power sooner to tow but a car can get higher speeds...for instance I had a buddy with an 07 mustang with an auto 4.0 and with my 4.0 ranger I destroyed him off the line and up to 80 but about then is when he could beat me

I'd take the extra 20 ft lbs.
Could you take the cams out of a stang and put them in the truck?
What about just swapping ecu's?

I was thinking of asking the same thing

----

or what about putting in a racing cam, how would that affect the SOHC's performance?

Idk, I do know that they make a cam for the 4.0L. I think a guy named nick had them in his truck on another site.
