97 OHV 4.0 4wd Auto - City around 15, average 17.8, with more road biased tire I have seen 23. I drive like an old man most days. I've learned pushing to hard in traffic generally just pisses me off more. So I set the cruise and go lol With my stock bumper, and canopy I was getting 20. I was also getting that minus canopy, with a more road biased tire. I went to a more agressive all terrain, dropped me a little, mostly in city driving, then added the canopy and went back up to 20. Then put the TJM bumper and that dropped me to the ~18 I get now. Towing...10-12 mpg fully loaded

I worked for a local Cable TV company as a Disconnector. I was doing a lot of city driving, and the lowest I got was 8MPG. I've since put in a K&N air fliter, and have a different job. Now I'm getting 16-18 MPG. I can go about 200miles on a full tank of gas. I'm going to put in a Supercharger to get better MPG.

Just got this truck about a two weeks ago, I'm getting a solid 17.5 around backroads, and almost 21 on the highway, cruise set to 60-65. My truck is bone stock as far as I know. I want to try and get a little more out of it for highway, if there are any no brainer add-ons I can get (Still reading the forums). My old ranger ('95 4cyl 2.3? 5spd 2wd) I was getting around 28-29 highway, I'm gonna miss that truck...

Hmm i get anywhere between 21 and 23.5 mpg on the highway. Even with my 4.0l and 4.10 gears, but only between 12-14 mpg with a loaded 6x12 enclosed trailer haha.

I bought my truck and i knew the mpg downsides when i bought her. The 3.0L and the 4.0L get about the same mpg so you know "go big or go home" i went big (for a ranger haha).

If this is only for use as a commuter i would say higher rear gears (numerically lower). And baby the hell outta it. But at the same time, if this is only a commute vehicle....you shoulda just bought a small car haha. Just picking.

Good luck to you though. There are probably hundreds of threads on this topic on this forum alone.

The sad part is that I need a truck for my job. Or else I'd be using my little hyundai. I had my last truck for two years and I put over a 100,000 miles on it. The only things I wanted when looking for a new one was the extended cab, 4WD to reach some places I couldn't in the 2wd, and air conditioning! I knew I'd lose MPG's with anything I got cause my last one was so good. I did find the other posts on this thread helpful with watching the rpm's on take-off. You said change the gears? how would that effect the 4WD aspect? right now they are 3.73. Ugh gotta hit the forums again... Haha JK It's kinda fun figuring this stuff out

Just filled mine up this morning. It took 16.77 gallons to top it off, and with my odometer at 252.2 miles since my last fill up, that came out to 15.03 MPG.

But that is literally 90% slow moving or stop and go city traffic.
