Default 4.0 throttle cable :/

Okay so today i was putting a k&n drop in air filter on my 02 ranger 4.0. And there was a noticeable power difference anyway, i noticed that my gas pedal was loose, as in i could pull the gas pedal twords my body with my foot and then it fall back to its original position. So i opened up the hood and looked to see if i could tighten the throttle cable. I took off the 4.0l sohc plate and i noticed this red capped black plastic wire that look like it fitted on the throttle cable attachment. i found where the wire leads to, and there is a thing on the left of the truck and it says "2002 ranger gas" and that's it. It fits back on the throttle cable attachment, but it wont stay, every time i open the throttle it comes off. I have no idea what this is at all, could someone tell me? and also, i noticed a green plastic thing with a spring on it that connects to the throttle cable and the gas pedal. i need to know how to tighten this. Thanks

The plastic end piece really does nothing. Search the "How To's" search throttle cable mod and you'll get your answer. In the meantime post pics, it will help

yeah the throttle cable mod is an easier way of taking up slack between the end of the cable and that green piece on your gas pedal. you basically take zip ties and tighten them around the cable to take up the slack. it's perfectly normal for the cable to stretch over time
