Default shifting with engine vacuum?

hey guys quick question, i was talking to my boss the other day and he said some people shift gears on a manual trans using a vacume guage to tell them when the engine is at a certain vacume level for each shift. Has anyone heard of this and if so what are the proper shift points for a 4.0l v6?

i believe every motor is different so you shift at your maximum vacuum. you can also improve your gas mileage with a vacuum gauge. the idea being the harder you accelerate the lower your engine vacuum will be. so you try to maintain a reasonably high engine vacuum as you accelerate
