Default 4.0 used engine years i can use for my 03
I'm thinking about just replacing my 4.0 with another one after my timing chain issue blew up in my face today. will a 2004 or 2005 engine work with my 03 computer? And have they fixed the timing chain tensioner issue by those year engines?

I believe I read that 04+ have corrected the timing chain issue but I am not 100%. Anyone else know?

You should be able to any Ranger or Expo motor from 04-06 I know for sure. I'm putting a 06 expo motor in mine.

Any 01+ SOHC 4.0 will work.

On a side note if you get a expo motor you will have to reuse a few things off your current motor( intake passenger valve cover ect.) So things will fit properly
