Did you have a carbon problem
before you looked at it? Perhaps you don't have a carbon problem now. You simply have some carbon where you didn't expect it.
I've had a carbon problem before. A 318 dodge van and some Ford V8 too. An exhaust passage through the intake, under the carburetor would plug up with carbon and the engine would barely run cold and lousy the rest of the time. Hard as a rock carbon. The cure was to take the manifold off and use a hammer and cole chisel to knock it out. Some guys would then get a fire started in the passage with a oxyacetylene torch and turn the fuel off. The O2 and pure carbon would make an incredible fire and could warp a cast iron manifold all to hell. That's a carbon problem
