Default intake cleaning and egr

has anyone pulled there intake manifold and notice if it was dirty as hell i pulled my tb and cleaned it one side was ok the other side a caked with some black sh!t i use a whole can of cleaner trying to get it off bc good air flow is a good thing well i noticed the intake manifold and it was the same way its about 1/8 inch thick all the way down to the pistons i think i didnt pull the fuel plate but i could see the sh!t down in the runners. is this normal for a ranger someone told me it was the truck has 226,000 i see a rebuild in the future. but for now i had to clean the intake and tb hope it helps some as for the egr i noticed that the tube that goes into the intake is pointing at the tb and im wondering if that is where the black sh!t is coming from? and i know it circulates the exhaust some what but do i really need it. can i block off the tube and still have the truck run right with no problems why did they even put it in the truck sorry for the noob questions my first truck and first time dealing with egr. thanks for the help

Its carbon from the ignition cycle and from the egr. Its on most vehicles, no matter how clean you keep the engine. It was on my throttle body as well when when i cleaned it, but with 225xxx miles, rebuild soon is possibly a good idea

No, I think if you get rid of egr it will start throwing emissions codes at you. The best thing to do would be to leave it, and just rebuild it with it.

Did you have a carbon problem before you looked at it? Perhaps you don't have a carbon problem now. You simply have some carbon where you didn't expect it.

I've had a carbon problem before. A 318 dodge van and some Ford V8 too. An exhaust passage through the intake, under the carburetor would plug up with carbon and the engine would barely run cold and lousy the rest of the time. Hard as a rock carbon. The cure was to take the manifold off and use a hammer and cole chisel to knock it out. Some guys would then get a fire started in the passage with a oxyacetylene torch and turn the fuel off. The O2 and pure carbon would make an incredible fire and could warp a cast iron manifold all to hell. That's a carbon problem.
