no start condition - kind of resolved & disabling PATS?
My wife's '99 B4000 quit starting last week. I searched around here on ECM/PCM/etc threads as I was certain that's what it was. We had it and the PATS module replaced exactly 12months ago plus 7 days. I was pretty irked. So we took it to the dealer for a diagnosis as no local places (or OBDII readers) can detect hard codes in the computer. Dealer pulled the ECM relay, grabbed their codes, put it back in and... it started??? They did 15 starts in a row with no hesitation or problem (I had attempted starting at least as many times). So, without an active problem, the dealer couldn't diagnose anything (and we didn't get charged). Guess I'll count myself lucky and continue on (with some spare ECM relays in the glove box).
However, now that we are past that problem I want to investigate doing an electronic mod to the truck. I would like to disable the PATS system. Its cost about a grand over the last three or four years with failing twice, and new keys a handful of times. Some of it can be blamed on remote start, though that system functioned flawlessly for three years, the rest I lay at the feet of poorly designed systems. There are about three threads that deal with disabling PATS. Have there been any updates in technology since Feb 2010 (the more recent thread)? I'm not keen on wiring keys into the dash with relays etc because it can still fail and cause problems. I'd really just like it gone. Any ideas?
Thanks.
