Valve cover gasket replacement
So i have been smelling a burning smell coming from under the hood recently and went to check it out the other day...from what i can see is my valve cover is leaking on the side in front of the drivers seat...the other one is fine....
my question is how hard is it to replace the valve cover gaskets on the 4.0 sohc engine... i think that replacing the gasket would probably fix the problem..
has anyone here ever done it... it looks like there is a lot of connectors that would have to be put back together , but other than that how much of a "process is it to do theses gaskets..
id rather do it myself, and save the labor charges or would it be best to just have it done at a shop
i just want to note that i can see it leaking onto the exhaust manifold , and it is not leaking on to the ground so it isnt leaking "horribly"...i know that is probably isnt a good thing to have a leaky gasket, but as long as i keep an eye on it, until fixed it should be ok to be driven correct?..
thanks,
kyle

Re: Valve cover gasket replacement
You'll be fine, just monitor your oil level, depending on how much you drive, you could run all the oil out and not even realize it.

Re: Valve cover gasket replacement
It's not hard just a little time consuming from all the disassembly you need to do. Just take pictures if your not good at remembering where things go and route

X2. Pictures are your best friend upon re-assembly. Just make sure the area where you place the gasket is super clean and dry (head & valve cover ) and make sure that the cover itself is not malfunctioning.

Re: Valve cover gasket replacement
Can anyone tell me where i can find a driver's side valve cover for a 1994 Ranger xlt? It has corroded to the point where oil is starting to come through the cover. Can't seem to find one online. Finding the gaskets is easy. It's the cover itself.

Re: Valve cover gasket replacement
STL
Do you have step by step instructions for the SOHC 4.0? If so could you give them to me?
