Default Burnin smell , dont know where from??

I have been noticing lately after i get out of my truck, that there is a bad burning smell, and im not quite sure where its coming from..

any ideas of where to look?? is this normal?

the truck is a 01 4.0 auto with 143k

it isnt leaking oil, the tranny shifts fine, its running good and all the gauges are reading normal, but the smell bothers me?

also i do alot of stop and go and short distance driving, i dont know if that matters, also its been in the upper 90s here most days

any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

thanks,
kyle

could be your brakes pads also. i kno the cheaper pads will make a burning smell when they get hot and stay like that.

----------

smell around your brakes and see if it gets stronger there..

Crawl under and look around. I'd bet it is oil leaking, dripping on the exhaust or other hot components. Front main, rear main, or valve covers.

i looked under and all around the engine tonight..i noticed a small amount of oil leakin by the valve cover gasket, and on to the exhaust manifold...wondering if this is it??

it isnt much but im not suprised with the mileage, it has a little leak

the big ? is how big of a deal is it...its not the whole length of the gasket either.. it isnt dripping on the ground..

is this normal place for leakage? "drivers side by the plug closets to the firewall"

thanks
kyle

its not a huge deal but i personally would replace it cause i have a pet peev of stuff like that. it all matters how much it bothers u and the smell. it could become worse and then a fire could start but its up to you.

My front main, rear main, and valve covers have been leaking for years. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
