Re: 97 ranger 4.0 problems
My filter hums...no idea why. It started when I put in a K&N drop in.
As for the slight skip, sounds like a bad connection on one of the wires or an improper gap on a plug. The catalyst below threshold I will have to look up. But it generally means that it isn't working properly. How many miles? It may be time for new O2 Sensors

I forgot the gasket in mine...lol So it could be, they are cheap. 35 bucks for an IAC
As for the miss, it could be your coil pack getting weak on one cylinder as well.

I wouldn't just throw parts at it, if it's a slight hiccup I'd leave it for now.

The IAC is 35 bucks, if it's stock, might as well change it. As for the skip, unless it really gets worse...I'd leave it alone

Re: 97 ranger 4.0 problems
hooting was IAC also if you have the plastic intake the o-ring gasket is a bitch to order and you can get from the dealer. most aftermarket places only show the paper gasket which will not work.
also on the air filter hooting, alot of Fram and K&N filters the rubber around the filter is to thin and doesnt seal. switch back to a motorcraft filter or WIX and it will solve that problem
----------
I had my coil pack go out around 130,000 also in 50k I have had 2 sets of wires the motorcraft set cracked on 2 plugs and was shorting out on the manifolds at about 35k on them.
----------
whats the actual code are you throwing?
