Default 2.3 to 4.0 swap questions ('03 2.3L)

**I'm new to the truck scene (used to own a Corolla XRS) so if i ask something retarded you know why lol I'm posting this because I wanna get to know the trucks better**

I've tried using the search but i couldn't find exactly what I wanted. IDK if i used it correctly but I gave it a shot.

I own an '03 Mazda B2300 with a 2.3L motor 5 speed manual transmission.
It's cool and all but I'd like some more power.
I was thinking of getting the 4.0L motor in it. Under the hood it shows "belt routes" for 2.3/3.0/4.0, so I'm assuming a 4.0L fits in the engine bay.
The biggest things I'd like to know is - what hp rating does the 4.0L have? what equipment, other than the motor, does it need to run correctly? and will the trans i have support it?

Sorry again for any newb questions. Just trying to beef up the truck lol

4L does indeed fit. If you want the 4L go for the SOHC (207 HP and 238 lb ft) vs the OHV (iirc like 170 HP and 240 Lb feet i think). I just think there are some mods you have to do to the suspension for the 4L and perhaps add torsion bars as well.

It should from what I understand, the manual was the same for both 4 cyl and V6 engines (tranny code 5R55E). Just unsure if your diff will bolt on. I think the 4 cyl uses a 4.10, but I am unsure if its the same 4.10 as some V6s came with.

But he was right about having to consider the suspension change for the heavier engine. You'll want this to be an improvement not a problem so research is in order. Remember even torsion bars have different rating values according to which engine is in there.

engine doesnt weigh that much more will be fine..... your rear diff should be a 3:73 .. from my understanding the trans will not work, from 2.3-4.0 swap

I was under the impression that it was a Mazda 5 spd that was used in all ranger Manuals from 1998-now and I was also under the impression that it was a 4.10 behind the 2.3L I could be wrong.

Really not sure Andre? but, I've always wondered why people refer to the manual tranny and say "Mazda", when Mazda is a division of Ford Motor Company.

lol Mazda's US portion is owned by Ford.

So would i have to change the diff? or the tranny + diff?
