Default 4.0 OHV to a 4.0 SOHC

Is this hard to switch over if i were to put a newer motor in my truck just a swap? the newer ones put a few more horses out. I have a 2000 4.0 right now would an sohc improve performance

the SOHC is completely different than the OHV so to swap you will need the entire harness and computer from the SOHC donor truck. you might also need the 5R55E transmission as well.

You should run whatever oil ford requires to be run in it. It will tell you what weight oil to run right on your oil cap.

I got both motors. they both are getting around the same mileage. The OHV motor seems to have more torque tho, dont know why but in my 01 when you get on it and it kicks down, it just dont seem to have that "grunt" feel to it like my 96. I dont think it would be worth the swap. If you have a nice running truck then leave it. If your motor blew, then I might consider it.

It would depend on your application. For my uses (towing, hauling, mudding, climbing) I would suggest keeping the ohv and building on it. Cam (and associated valvetrain work), headers with a decent set of pipes behind them, and gearing. But if you are going for a light use only highway and city cruiser with no moderate work at all, get the SOHC, but then again, for the same price you could get a 5.0. Its all about what you want to do and how deep your pockets are.

I'm going to go out on a limb...I think the sohc is a bad design and I would rather have an OHV any day of the week. Unless your into high rpm's the ohv motor is a better choice and guess what...it only has one timing chain, and you can change the plugs, and thermostat without it being an all day adventure...lol
I currently have 2 trucks with the sohc and one of them needs the upper intake pulled so I can fix the leaky plastic thermostat housing and the other has a rattling timing chain on the passengers side which may require me to pull the motor to fix.
Do a search for 4.0 sohc timing chain and see if you like what you see...
