Default Hesitation At Acceleration

Last few months truck has been idling a little rough and then it'll smooth out. But most, not all, but most of the time when I'm accelerating from a stop or even while moving like an on-ramp, the engine sputters. I put new plugs in (took those worthless E-plugs out) and replaced the wires. I was having a problem last year with MAF and IAC so I cleaned them both very well with appropriate cleaner specific for the IAC and MAF. This past early spring I replaced the IAC with a new one. I changed the fuel filter and upon not seeing a lot of improvement I've put through 2 cans of Seafoam over the course of 3 tanks of gas. The truck is never off-road. We do drive it a lot. It's at 180K right now and we've put 24,200 miles on it since September of '09.
I'm thinking possibly one or more injectors not spraying properly due to the mileage. Does anyone concur with this and if so, how difficult is it to replace those?

Thanks Folks!

~David

my guess was going to be fuel filter, but you've already tried that. hopefully you put autolite or motorcraft plugs and wires in, Fords don't get along too well with anything else. but I'm not sure that would even cause your issues.

Problems like you describe is usually fuel delivery. Since you already did the fuel filter, I would check the fuel pressure. Since you didn't say what year or engine you have, i can't tell you what it should be. It should be either 35psi or 65psi.

I'm having the exact same problem with my '00 4.0 130k. does it shake harder when you accelerate? I also had my fuel filter replaced by the dealership but it didn't fix it. I tried adding fuel injector cleaner and it got better for a short amount of time. Since i have no code no mechanic has been able to fix it but speculation has been from fuel pump, throttle position switch (tps) and the transmission good luck to you

Clogged cats will do this. With 180k on the clock, your cats are probably filled to the brim if they haven't been replaced before.

Well I found the solution but yes, you have to hear the whole story. I'll try to be brief. I drove the truck several times today. I picked my step-daughter up at school. Came home for 5 minutes, went to start the truck. One click and then I lost all power. Not even a dome light. Twisted the battery connections. Got power back. Turned key. Same thing. Did this about four times. Then got another battery that I keep as a spare. Same thing. So thinking the solenoid is not engaging or stuck, I pull the starter, take it to O'reilleys. Starter tests fine so I buy a solenoid switch replacement. It fits on the fender. Get it installed. No change. Then I pull the alternator and take it and have it tested. It tests fine. By this time it's dark. I try back to the other battery only now I see a spark when I turn the key from the positive battery cable connector. So I literally fly to O'Reilleys, get a replacement battery terminal end. (The negative side got a new one about a year ago.) Put it back together and she fires right up. Not only that but no more hesitation. Runs like a CHAMP!! Even the radio station I listen to is clear and not fading in and out like it had been the last 6 months or so. All that for a $5 part!
