Default trans fluid

hey guys i recently got an 01 ranger edge 4.0, with the automatic 5 speed, i was reading in my owners manual and it says not to change the fluid and filter? why?? would it hurt to change it? i have 90000 miles on it now and next week i wanted to change the gear oil, tranny fluid and filter, as well as plugs and wires...any insight would be appreciated

4r44 is your trans number/model number. and all i can think of is that as long as you change it with something that is made for it you should be fine.
the best thing to do is get a real tranny flush and fill when they run it through the machine that is the most efficient way. but i dont see why he would write that?

I would not take it to any shop other than FORD if you want to have it hooked to a machine for a flush. I have heard testimony from a friend that worked in a oil change shop, they would run garbage ATF thru ALL vehicles. The 4r44,4r55,5r44,5r55 all require Mercon V a full synthetic. You should be fine to drop the pan, change the filter and fill back up with MERCON V.
