Question Code 171 & 174

I have an 01 with a 4.0. The scope says that I have a problem with codes 171 and 174. After talking to the guy at an auto parts place he told me it could be anything. He suggested replacing the egr, or fuel filter, or an 02 sensor. Any help would be greatly appreciated. In addition, where are the egr and fuel filters located?

Thank you 01 Ranger (fellow Michiganian). I read your post after I posted. I looked at the elbow and could not see any damage. Being that I have not had any problems with idling or horsepower I took your advice and went to the Auto Plus dealer in Big Rapids and purchased a foot of 5/8" I/D reinforced hose ($1.47). I plan to pull off the elbow tomorrow and replace it with the hose. I'll let you know the outcome. Thanks again for posting your information--it helped a lot. Thank you too djfllmn!!

Mike just a tip you may want to create a signature letting us know what kind of truck you have and any other information about your truck so we won't have to ask questions to answer your question.

glad to help mike. keep in mind though, thats just one possible cause of those codes but it is the most common cause in the SOHC 4.0.
