Angry think i have a blown head gasket

I just got my truck and I've been replacing stuff that it needs.

so on sunday I replace the thermostat, and now my truck is smoking like it has a blown head gasket. I check the oil no water. check the radiator no oil. but the radiator does boil. I need to get new hoses and replace them.

I was just wondering if these has happen to anybody.

Sounds like you do. Is the exhaust blowing white with a sweet smell? If so you have a blown head gasket.

It's always good to go with the oem ones. So either motorcraft or autolite.

while you have the heads off, REALLY check between the valves for cracking its VERY VERY common.

I used to hang around an automotive machine shop and they repaired a lot of heads. Their thinking was that when heads are cast they shrink (which of course is true). The heavy metal sections next to the tiny area separating the valves shrink and put tremendous pull on that area. Add overheating, detonation or simply age and the area cracks. Methods including cold pinning and welding have been developed to correct this problem and result in a better head than originally cast on some heads. Others they wouldn't touch.

Here's additional info on head repair:
http://www.enginebuildermag.com/Arti...r_process.aspx

If I could find a shop/rebuilder doing these heads, I would prefer over junkyard ones.
