Try creating your own thread with more details about your ranger. That way it will be more likely to be answered instead most on here are going to respond to the original poster.

pretty sure no one makes one since you've got an OBD I truck instead of the newer OBD II.

chips = waste of money. tuner/programmers are what you need

they sell a sct livewire on amazon for a ford ranger with three tunes on it. it says you choose the tunes is that the same as getting a tuner with custom tunes on it?

Nope.
Some SCT's can come with the generic "towing, economy & performance" type canned tunes.

Re: Looking for the best tuner for my Ranger! Need input.
well are the custom tunes a lot better? you cant really do much with a 3.0 with a kn air intake on it. and the canned tunes are better than $50.00 per tune
----------
also im really looking for more power towing and on the interstate because I struggle to keep the truck going 65-70 without down shifting when theres the slightest slope or if its windy

Re: Looking for the best tuner for my Ranger! Need input.
Are you running the stock rear gear with those 33s? Using tuner gives you more power and installing the proper gearing will make that added power usable.

If you really want a tuner - but not in need of a true custom tuner..then just go with the Superchips Flashpaq version (assuming they make one for you).
They are cheaper than the SCT.
The SCT really shines in the true custom tuning department - but if you don't need it - then save a few bucks and go with the Flashpaq from Superchips.

Re: Looking for the best tuner for my Ranger! Need input.
I want custom tunes then. I mainly want more power on the interstate.

Re: Looking for the best tuner for my Ranger! Need input.
I bought an SCT tuner from Rogue Performance, I received it yesterday and got the X4 variant. When going to load the tunes on the truck, I have 4 options. The box tuned 4.0, then 3 custom tunes for 87, 91, 93 (not what I asked for either).
All the tunes, show nothing changed in the proceeding menu review before loading it into the truck. All show "0" or "Stock Value" I loaded each one...and not a thing changed. Am I missing something? I don't see 87 eco, tow or performance. I was really hoping to get some info on this. I emailed Fred and SCT if this is how it is supposed to be.

If I understand what you're describing correctly - That screen is actually meant to show any 'user selected' changes from the base custom tune as originally programmed.
For example: My most recent custom tune was for stock 3.55 gears - but I since changed to 3.73's. So on that screen I still select my desired custom tune - but I modify that custom tune even further for the 3.73's. All other parameters of the custom tune would stay 'stock value' (for the tune) - except for the gearing portion.
Long story short: '0' or 'stock value' on that screen really means "no change from selected program". Not stock, stock. If that makes any sense. lol
The overall selected custom program has been loaded and replaced the true stock program. It's just a matter of whether the base custom tune has been further modified with the handheld.
As far as what tunes you should see - well, that depends on what you ordered from Fred.
