If your dipstick reads good your probably fine. I just dont think you can see the oil when you take off the fill cap. I never looked in there till this weekend when I changed my oil and even after I filled it back up I still couldn't see it, so I think thats normal.

You should fill until the top of the cap.
*sarcasm*

I have heard of people doing that before believe it or not.

That's funny..

Even worse was a guy with a Mustang decided to change his own oil. The oil looked really dirty so he decided to flush the engine out with his garden hose.

He decided to run the motor with the water running through it to really flush it out good.

The motor quit working pretty quickly

It was all over a Mustang forum a few years back.. The guy was posting trying to figure out why it wouldn't run/turn over.

Yea..I hope that thread is still around..I'd love to find it again. Some googling should turn it up unless it's been purged/deleted over the years.

Theres been a few other crazy ones over the years as well. Like a guy putting NOS energy drink in his motorcycle thinking it was a fuel additive.

We all do ignorant things at some point in our lives. Part of me feels sorry for them, but you gotta laugh once in a while

or the guy who tried to port his audi's engine by extending his intake and having it suck up some fine grains of sand. that was classic.

A buddy complained that he had no oil on the dipstick, tried to add oil in the filler in the top of the valve cover and it ran over. The answer. Old Chevy in-line sixes had small oil returns from the head back to the pan. On really dirty clapped out motors they could get plugged or nearly so and the oil would build up in the valve cover.
