Default Project Thread - Rebuilding 4.0L OHV

Well my truck has developed a very bad miss-fire, I already know my head is cracked and I have been limping it along. its a common problem on the OHV engine's. I finally decided to go all out and rebuild the top half of the engine.

Parts list
  • JBA headers
  • Percy split-lock header bolts
  • NEW Alabama Cylinder heads
  • Delta Cams new rockers and rails and push rods
  • Felpro gaskets
  • Felpro head bolts
  • new valve covers
  • water pump
  • t-stat
  • belt
  • spark plugs
  • Sealed power roller lifters
  • Ill edit when i remember other stuff

Powder coated GT40 valve cover blue

I'll add more pics tomorrow

ok its tomorrow I have the block down to seeing pistons

HERE you can see what happens to the push rods the end wears out causing gaps in the valve train you can see a good one and bad one

There is NO ridge on the cylinder wall, also you can still see crosshatching

Now can you spot the bad cylinder? *hint* look for the discolored exhaust valve.

Now marinate your steaks.... no wait I mean NEW hydraulic roller lifters over night in oil. aka $420 worth of tinny little made in Germany Hitler hell

More pics tomorrow.

------------------------------------

Ok this is the engine finished and back in running order I can NOT believe how quiet the engine is now!!!!

I owned it since 100k, when I bought it the truck was all original besides oil, oil filter and air filter. NOTHING had ever been changed.

the spark plugs where down into the insulators, wires where barely hanging on. she lived a hard life before I got her.

So are you doing any porting and polishing? 3-angle valve job? Oversized valves to help it breath better? Or are you just trying to get it more reliable and working better? Because honestly, if you're throwing headers on anyway, you might as well at least port the exhaust side of things to get a little extra out of it.

No I am not. Main reason I bought headers is my stock manifolds where in such horrible condition from rusting. Also these new heads are a combination of 98tm intake port and a 97tm exhaust port if you know 98tm heads are about 1/2" smaller exhaust port so I will now have a bigger port in general. I had ordered cheaper pacesetter headers first they come in the quality sucked bad so returned for JBA.

They are new stock replacements. Casted to fix the cracking problem. They come with valves and valve springs installed for $205 each. Also the company over nights orders. And I explained the difference in them above this
